Midsummer Cottages, Milton Keynes

A new build scheme of four houses and one mobility bungalow constructed as part of the Futureworld Exhibition. The houses formed part of a study by URBED into Housing in the 21st Century, commissioned by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

Whilst the houses contain many innovative features, they are intended to be relevant to the wider social housing market.

The scheme seeks to demonstrate housing which is attractive to buyers; cost effective; simple to construct; flexible in layout; and which meets the highest environmental standards.

The houses demonstrate the following primary aims:

• Energy efficiency in use.
• Elimination of environmental hazards.
• Recycling.
• Low skill construction content.
• Responsiveness to changing life styles.
